Time
To be able to talk about watches first you need to understand where they came from.
In the beginning there were no such things as watches, but there was the idea of time, some would use the phases of the moon to count it others would use stations of the year, spring, summer, fall and winter. Nonetheless throughout history we will be able to see countless methods to count time.
Why the need to count time? Back then, life or death situations. The stations of the year would tell when to harvest and when to plant the crop. The phases of the moon would tell when the packs or the herds would be in the area. That kind of information was vital at that time. Now a days however, the reason why people count time is more complex, more philosophic even. Why time? Well, everybody needs it and not everybody knows how to use it.

Time management
First things first, no man is capable of controlling the time. So, why watches? Watches can bring the illusion of controlling the time, this way affecting our subconscious, making us forget we cannot control time. Watches can make more than that, watches are a symbol of status and social class. Many pre assumptions are made in the moment we meet someone for the first time. A simple example is, if you are in the elevator and there is two people inside it, besides yourself. One of them has a Nike + SportWatch on the wrist, we are quick to assume that person is an athlete of some sort or at least frequents a gym. On the other side of the elevator there is a man wearing a Montblanc Star Date, and as fast we assume that he is more of a business man. Watches became a symbol of status, good taste, and a few other social matters. Nonetheless, watches have the primarily function of showing the time, so that we can adjust our schedule to the time that is given to us. Until a few years ago, maybe a decade or so, most of us had the idea of the typical job 9-5. Now a days however, schedules are more and more flexible, each company have its' own policy of working hours. Thus, increasing the necessity of time management in our daily lives.
